Suite BWV 1067

JSB is one of the greatest composers of all time… Born 1685 in Eisenach  to a family of musicians, he started his training early, although as he was orphaned at the age of 10, he continued his studies and indeed worked while living with his elder brother.

He had spells working for various churches in Arnstadt, Mulhausen and courts in Weimar and Kothen, before becoming Cantor at St Thomas in Leipzig.

This Suite was originally written for Flute and Orchestra and contains the well known Badinerie.

  • Quartet/Quintet/Sextet
  • Composer: J S Bach
  • Period: Baroque.
  • Difficulty:  Moderate/Tricky
  • Instruments:
    • Treble
    • Tenor
    • Tenor 2
    • Bass
    • Great Bass
    • Contra

Notes

From this weekend, most of the Suite should be available (we are still working on the first (and longest) movement)…

This Rondeau is quite well known and is relatively simple to play. Several of the other movements are equally easy to play, however, the Polonaise/Double and the final Badinerie are not for the feint hearted and will definitely take some practice!
